Study the order of the 9 "planets" from Pluto to the Sun

These are the nine planets that I was taught in school... so long ago. Discuss with students how our knowledge changes, even our definitions.

Board game

Planets are listed on the board and players race to collect planet cards in the correct order.

Make four or more copies of the planet cards and add at least six wilds to keep the game moving.

Single Player Activity

Prepare the activity by printing the labels onto a sticker page and attaching the labels to clothespins or print labels on paper for students to clip to game card.

Planets are listed on the game card. Student clips the correct number or number/ name to the card.

Race against the clock or another student, wrapping a string around the tiedown, matching terms to their definitions.

Prepare by printing on card stock or construction paper, cut on solid, bold lines and fold on dotted lines. Two ways to print, the key on the back or without a key.

Some of the terms are:

  • Prime Meridian
  • Northern Hemisphere
  • True North
  • Equator
  • Urban Geography
  • Biogeography

DIY -

  • Fold a piece of construction paper or card stock to create the appropriate size and thickness (I like three layers).
  • Print your terms on one side and the definitions on the opposite side, mixed, so they are not across from their term.
  • Punch a hole and add the string like the image below.
